Mental Health in Medicine


Doctors and medical students can access support from the network of doctors’ health advisory services (DHAS) across Australia. 1300 Dr4Drs (1300 374 377) provides a free, 24/7 confidential telehealth service specifically for doctors and medical students who are struggling with their mental health.

is the MD Program Director and a GP in suburban Perth. She has a keen interest in doctors’ health and is a committee member and colleague of first contact for the Doctors’ Health Advisory Service of Western Australia

Professor Sean Hood

is a psychiatrist in academic (University of Western Australia), public (SCGH, Nedlands) and private practice (The Marian Centre, Wembley). Professor Hood is Head of the UWA Division of Psychiatry, and Associate Dean (Community & Engagement) for the UWA Medical School.

Professor Sean Hood MBBS MSc FRANZCP undertook his undergraduate medical degree at the University of Western Australia before completing formal postgraduate training in Psychiatry in Perth (Australia) and Bristol (United Kingdom) in 2003.

Prof Hood chairs a novel research collaboration with the Meeting for Minds (M4M) Foundation which is a “not-for-profit organisation dedicated to research of the brain and disorders of the brain in partnership with people living with mental illness”.

Dr Kaylin Hooper

Dr Kaylin Hooper graduated from UWA in 2020 and is a current intern at FSH. She has a keen interest in Australian mental health, and is a mental health advisor and founding member of The Push-Up Challenge.

The Push-Up Challenge began in 2017 and has raised over $16 million for Australian Mental Health Charities. Dr Hooper assists with mental health promotion and education during the event, and hopes to continue working in the public health and advocacy space in the future. She is aiming to enter psychiatry training with RANZCP.
